Education

College/Graduate Students

The Logistics and Development Institute offers several fully-funded research fellowship positions for Industrial Engineering Ph.D. students. Funding includes tuition and a generous stipend for four years.

As home to the UPS Worldport, Louisville is perhaps America’s greatest logistics city. The region is crowded with distribution centers of leading e-commerce retailers and other distribution companies. The Institute has excellent relationships with many of these firms. As a LoDI fellow, you will have many opportunities to work on projects for a wide variety of companies to gain real-world experience and develop your portfolio.

Fellows analyze data and prepare models to develop recommended solutions to a challenge faced by an industry partner. Graduate students present these projects to their peers and faculty to gain feedback during bi-monthly seminars. Recent and current projects include:  analyzing placements of pharmacies in urban medically underserved areas, developing a mobile app to improve healthcare access by connecting 1st generation Asian Americans to healthcare providers, warehouse storage optimization solutions, cost-effective placement of distribution centers.    For more information, please contact us.

LoDI and Logility Logistics Case Competition

The University of Louisville’s Logistics and Distribution Institute (LoDI) and Logility, a leading supply chain software firm, have teamed up with the KY-TSA to host a logistics case competition for high school teams. Student teams will be given FREE access to the software for this case study competition. Logistics case competitions feature teams with a maximum of four students to solve a logistics challenge. Teams will work on a case to determine the optimal choice of suppliers, distribution centers and warehouses to meet customer demand in a timely and cost-effective manner. Students will have the opportunity to explore state-of-the-art software to exercise their problem-solving and analytical skills to solve a real-world business challenge. Teams are scored by a panel of judges on their technical solutions outlined in their portfolio and the poster presentation to determine the winning teams.
